Descripción:
Identified as a cause of food poisoning in the late nineteenth century and first used in humans to treat strabismus, botulinum neurotoxin (BoNT) has since become one of the most requested agents used worldwide in facial rejuvenation to enhance and reshape the aesthetic contours of the face. Indications approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) include a host of therapeutic disorders characterized by muscle hyperactivity, as well as hyperdynamic rhytides in the upper face. Moreover, offlabel use has expanded and evolved to include increasingly complicated indications, from the treatment of simple rhytides to the sculpting and moulding of the face, creating a more pleasant and youthful appearance. Used therapeutically in humans for nearly 30 years, BoNTs carry an impressive record of efficacy and safety when used appropriately by experienced injectors.
