There are several causes of FTPES. However, the author, Hassan A. Khawaja, has never seen any such case in his long experience of fat transfer in the face and buttocks, as has been described in the cases reviewed by Shiffman and Odey. The basic cause of FTPES, apart from the faulty technique and inexperience of the surgeon, are: 1. Use of improper instruments for fat harvesting and transfer. 2. Disruption or laceration of arteries, arterioles, venules or veins.
