Cosmetic surgery in Pakistan, began in the later half of the last century, when the author started performing cosmetic dermatologic surgery, under local anesthesia. During those days, the author started performing procedures like excision for acne scars, hair transplants with punch and strip grafts, dermabrasion for acne, and other kind of scars, superficial chemical peeling, and started using injectable collagen. The author got ample opportunity assisting cosmetic surgical procedures, performed by imminent visiting plastic surgeons in Pakistan, and observe specific procedures abroad. The author undertook all this training on a private self financed basis. After acquiring more professional knowledge, he started performing procedures like skin grafts, and flaps, blepharoplasties, facelifts, and liposuctions under local anesthesia.
